Sexy Summer Style

We’ve been admiring the luscious locks of our favorite celebs for years and celebrity summer style is the most desirable of them all. From the enviable locks of Kristen Bell to the sleek stylings of Michelle Trachtenberg, we’ve rounded up the top products that make sexy summer hair oh-so-attainable.

When it comes to summer hair, protection comes first and foremost. You’ll likely be spending a lot of time in the sun and hair that isn’t protected can get brittle and dry, encouraging breakage and damage. Lisa Rowell, Creative Director of the Vidal Sassoon Salon in Chicago, advises that being over-protected from harmful UVA and UVB Rays is far better than leaving the beach bronzed, but bushy-tailed. “The biggest thing,” she says, “is to protect your hair against summer damage.”

Since protection is key, start off with Wella System Professional’s Hydro Shampoo ($18 at www.onlinehomegoods.com) followed by a leave-in conditioner to prevent damage and protect color from fading. Rowell’s favorite is Kérastase’s Soleil Voile Protecteur, which is made up of Cermide and Rice Bran oil to moisturize the hair and provide a strong barrier between hair and sun ($28 at banler.com).

We suggest paring down long locks this season and Rowell agrees that shorter cuts are in this summer. “People want a change when the season changes and they often do it with adjusting their length,” Rowell says.

This summer, style is all about less fuss and more fun. To create the waves of the stars, a curl-enhancing product is a must. Most of these one-step products involve simple application, a scrunch or two with your hands and voilà, pretty beach waves are all yours.

For delicate waves like Kristen Bell’s, try Freeman’s Papaya Moisture Plus Surf’s Up Curl Enhancing Spray ($4 at drugstore.com) to add well-defined curls and a sweet tropical scent to hair without stickiness or stiffness. Another stunner in the wave styling department comes from KMS. Try their Sea Salt Spray to add extra volume that mimics a day at the beach ($10 at drugstore.com).

Got stick straight hair?  Keep it that way. Opt for reducing flyaways, and add a little shine, with got2b’s Cosmic Shimmering Serum ($6 at drugstore.com). The shimmer comes from mica minerals that create an understated gloss. The serum helps keep flyaways and frizz at a minimum. Take a hint from Michelle Trachtenberg and let your beach style come in the form of a sleek ponytail for low fuss and high glamour.

And, if you’ve done some damage to your hair, give it a quick fix with the Davine Suncare’s SU After Sun Moisturizing Pak ($20 at blushbeautystore.com). This rejuvenator, packed with rice bran oil, restores moisture to hair after just 15 minutes.

Sun and fun go hand in hand and, with our favorite summer tips and products, great hair is easily added to that mix. So strut through the sand, best style forward, and enjoy the season to the fullest.
