Tirra Salon and Spa
In a nutshell.
All in all, Tirra is a first-class Salon & Spa. Everyone I met was a
professional, and dedicated to the finest customer service. I felt pampered
from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. The employees at Tirra,
combined with the calming decor, made me feel as if I had been transported
into another relaxing, stress-free world, if only for a few hours!
Details, please!
The environs of Tirra are earthy, urban, minimalism, set in a spacious
loft in the trendy River North neighborhood. This Aveda Salon & Spa is
full-service, offering everything from makeup consultations to full body
massage, on top of the more standard salon service offerings like hair
and nail care. There is even a light lunch option! Metered, street parking
is abundant, a nice surprise for a downtown salon and spa.
I received a facial and an Aveda spa manicure. First, indulge me in sharing
my particular facial experience. Upon arriving for my facial at Tirra,
I was asked to remove my street shoes and put on a pair of disposable
slippers. I was offered something to drink - tea, water, or juice - and
escorted to the spa area, where I found a robe, shower, bathroom, and
private locker for my belongings. I relaxed for a moment in the spa waiting
area as quiet music played in a softly lit room. My slippers were removed
and my feet placed in a tub filled with moderately warm water...the facial
hadn't even begun and I was already relaxed! Lauren, my very knowledgeable
esthetician, then began her consultation with me. Lauren asked about my
skin care history and regimen while sharing Tirra's custom facial philosophy.
She also educated me about the Aveda product line, no mineral or lanolin
oils, all natural, good for the skin and good for the environment.
The facial was solid. Lauren never left the room, a first for me in getting
a facial. Usually there is some time when the esthetician wanders outside,
waiting for the masque or exfoliant to dry. Instead, Lauren used the downtime
to give me a face, neck, back, hand, and foot massage. Nice touch! Afterwards,
she told me what she saw "going on" with my skin. In all, I felt I received
a thoroughly relaxing and consummately professional facial experience.
I've had my fair share of facials, yet Lauren managed to teach me something
important about my skin. Her feedback on my skin type will help me prevent
signs of premature aging that often accompany my specific skin condition.
Thanks, Lauren!
My manicure was fantastic. I felt like Jen spent adequate time on my
nails, cutting down my cuticles, and moisturizing my hands. Her pleasant
and relaxed demeanor instantly put me at ease, and before I realized it,
the 45-minute manicure was over. Jen told me the color should last for
a good 5 days...that alone is a reason to go back to Tirra again and again!
As a side note, I liked the fact that the employees I met at Tirra are
long-time employees. My nail technician and esthetician had worked there
for several years! I like to see that kind of loyalty in a spa and salon.
In my humble opinion, employee and customer retention say a lot about
the quality of management and about salon environment.
