Tirra Salon & Spa 2008
Tirra
Salon & Spa has evolved into a River North staple. Sandwiched between
a flower shop and photography studio, this Aveda Concept Salon and Spa
is conveniently located on Erie Street amongst urban condominium buildings
and a flourishing restaurant scene. Metered parking is available in front
and on neighboring streets.
Tirra's
sophisticated spa offerings are housed within an urban oasis. Exposed
walls frame a plush but modern setting filled with muted sage and taupe
furniture. The aroma of eucalyptus fills the air creating a tranquil atmosphere.
On my visit to Tirra, I immediately forgot my mile-long "To Do" list and
melted into relaxation.
Owner Astrid Schneider opened Tirra
Salon & Spa in 2000. And while River North was not quite the bustling
neighborhood it is today, Schneider had it pinned for an up-and-coming
area and set up shop. Her mission was to create a friendly, neighborhood
spa that catered to Chicago's young and hardworking demographic. Since
then, Tirra
has grown in popularity and gained a diverse clientele.
Being an Aveda concept salon and spa, one could guess that the product
brand du jour is always Aveda. Not only do clients have a wide array of
Aveda products to choose from when they enter Tirra,
alll products used at Tirra
are all also available at Tirra's
online store.
Ready to relax, I peeled off my work clothes in the women's locker room
and stepped into a cozy Tirra
robe. My esthetician treated me to a Foot Soak to make sure I was calm,
comfortable and in the right state of mind to enjoy a Customized Facial.
The oh-so-soothing Foot Soak is a standard amenity with all Tirra's
spa treatments. While my feet soaked in an aromatic bath of warm water,
I filled out a short form to inform my esthetician of my goals for the
facial. After quickly patting my feet dry, my esthetician led me to one
of Tirra's
three treatment rooms.
Following a quick evaluation in the light, my esthetician addressed my
troublesome T-zone and hydration issues beginning with a cleanse. A pore-defining
mask followed suit as well as a steam and light extraction session. As
my mask hardened on my face, my esthetician seamlessly incorporated a
hand, arm and foot massage to help me relax.
The final stage of my treatment was a brand new treatment launched by
Aveda - the Plant Peel. As the peel worked its magic, I felt a tingling
sensation as the plant-derived product set. Upon completion, my esthetician
cleansed my skin once more and applied a light moisturizer and eye cream.
After a gentle massage of the temples and some essential oils to wake
up my senses, she quietly left the room and invited me to relax until
I was ready to redress.
Tirra
Salon & Spa is a welcome retreat from the everyday chaos we all experience.
Tirra
Salon & Spa offers luxe treatments for clients from head to toe in
a space that any spa girl (or guy, for that matter) would find soothing
and relaxing. Count me in for visits to this spa-standby.
