Salon Envy 2008 Review

Hair can make or break a day. Somehow, it doesn't matter what designer you are donning; great hair is what really makes a look come together. Upon entering Salon Envy, located in the heart of Lincoln Park at 2070 North Clybourn Avenue, I could tell by the celeb-quality coifs leaving the salon that today was going to be a good hair day.

Salon Envy's urban vibe and warm atmosphere had me feeling hip and welcomed immediately. Owned and operated by Susan Gardner, who also acts as a stylist during her busy workweek, the salon offers hair and facial services using posh products by Alto Bella, Shu Uemura, Age Smart, and Kérastase.

Seated on a comfy couch while waiting for my stylist, I was impressed by the chic space and the emphasis on personal attention. Stylists at Salon Envy treat clients to new, unique looks, tailored to their personality and needs.

After a few minutes taking in the eclectic environment, my stylist arrived and guided me to her station to begin my Consultation. We began with an in-depth conversation about my hair and what I was looking to accomplish with it. Being a longhaired blonde, I wanted to accentuate my blonde highlights and to add some layers. My stylist was attentive and offered expert recommendations on how we could enhance my highlights while still keeping my look natural. Focusing on maintaining the health of my hair, she suggested we cut about an inch of my hair and add some layers to complement my face shape. She even pulled out a book of celebrity hair photos for me to get a better mental picture of what she recommended. From this thorough consultation, I knew exactly what was going to expect with my transformation and I was ready to put my locks into her qualified hands.

After custom-blending my Redken color, the stylist was ready to go to work. After about 30 minutes of relaxing, my base was lightened, my highlights foiled and I was ready for a rinse. The stylist brought me over to a comfortable wash station to shampoo and condition. She applied a Kérastase conditioner and a protein treatment to help strengthen my fine hair. Returning to her station for my trim, my stylist began the cut we talked about. Before long, she blew it dry and unveiled the incredible results of my treatment. My color looked natural, and my highlights were enough to catch the eye, and my cut fit my oval face perfectly.

Salon Envy catered to my every need and I found a sense of security in my stylist that I never had before. While my visit was purely focused on hair, and great hair at that, the salon offers cosmetic services such as eyelash extensions, brow and lash tinting, waxing and makeup applications. Furthermore, they offer unique facials such as the Oxygen Facial.

Arming me with samples of the shampoo, conditioner and styling cream by Kerastase that was used during my appointment, my stylist sent me on my way to show off my new 'do on what turned out to be the best of hair days.
