Lincoln Park Massage Spa
Lincoln Park Massage specializes in all types of massage: Swedish, Deep
Tissue, Hot Stone, Couple's Massage, Reiki, and Thai massage. In addition,
clients have the option of selecting from a variety of body treatments
including a detoxifying mud treatment, aroma steam treatment, and nourishing
body mask. The massage spa is so proficient in what they do that they
even run a neighboring massage school. Both the spa and the school are
located on 630 West Webster Avenue, directly across the street from the
tin man statue at Oz Park.
There is a gentle water fountain in the lobby in stark contrast to the
honking cars and playful kids outside, neither of which I could clearly
hear once I entered the spa. One of the owners graciously greeted me (he
likes to meet all the clients), asking me how I heard about the spa. Then,
my massage therapist gave me a tour of the facility. He took special care
to point out the various themed rooms - such as a Caribbean island paradise,
a private desert oasis, and a room specifically designed for Thai massage.
Each room has a guest book that clients are free to sign, which helps
further personalize the massage experience at this spa. I was offered
a drink and a complimentary neck wrap, a soothing combination of warm
heat on the skin and the aroma of cinnamon spice.
My past experience of massage is that once undressed and on the massage
table, it often takes me a while to fully relax and enjoy the massage.
With a million things going on in a day of life, it's often so difficult
to truly relax and quiet the mind. Such was not the case here. Within
a minute and with a few firm, circular motions to the back of my neck,
I was pulled instantly into a state of complete relaxation. I was asked
to take one deep breath, and then another, and each time I did my therapist
moved my head and neck in a way that brought me more quickly into a deep
state of calm. It was nice to realize I was finally going to receive the
complete benefits of a full hour-long massage rather than a 10-minute
warm-up period followed by a 50-minute massage!
Oh, and something else I found so impressive... I normally have quite
a few knots in my upper and lower back (doesn't everyone?), which are
always found during a professional massage. However, massage therapists
I've experienced in the past normally alleviate knots through painful,
repetitive motion that I endure all the time silently chanting to myself,
"No Pain, No Gain, No Pain, No Gain!" This time, to my surprise, my knots
were eliminated without a single twinge of pain. I was grateful to finally
know that yes, it is possible to receive a deep tissue massage which eliminates
back knots without wincing.
Once the massage was over, I was given a large glass of water and reminded
of the importance of drinking lots of water to flush away the many toxins
that are released into the body via massage. I sat quietly and enjoyed
my water without being rushed; this was ideal because I needed some time
to get my fully relaxed self together before I walked out that door and
back into the chaotic reality of modern city living. I am already planning
my return to this Lincoln Park sanctuary for renewal and revitalization!
