Kaya Day Spa
Lavender Facial
The Kaya
Day Spa is named after the Kaya Tree - a unique Japanese tree characterized
by its strength and resistance to environmental stress. At Kaya
Day Spa, they pride themselves in creating a spa experience that invigorates
and restores balance and energy to the mind, body, and soul. And, oh how
they have succeeded in achieving this goal!
What an amazing afternoon I spent at the Kaya
Day Spa. I've done quite a few reviews for services across Chicagoland,
and I must say without hesitation that this spa really stands out. Their
space is incredible. Too many times in this great city of ours, spas must
sacrifice space for cost. Kaya
does not subscribe to this theory - located in over 10,000 square feet
of pampering space decorated in tranquil earth tones, Kaya
Day Spa is simple, spacious and elegant.
The Kaya
Day Spa is a stone's throw from Harpo Studios, Greektown, and Restaurant
Row in the growing West Loop. A parking lot for clients is conveniently
located on the North side of the building, just a few blocks from the
Randolph exit off the Kennedy Expressway - a great and easy-to-get-to
location.
No matter what service you elect to receive at Kaya,
you are invited to take advantage of all their space has to offer before
heading out the door. You might choose to surf the web on one of their
many internet stations, relax in a quiet room complete with waterfalls
and magazines (and plasma TV for the guys), indulge in a beverage from
the bar or lunch in the atrium, or relax in a shower with rain fall and
body sprays. The services and amenities offered are truly indulgent -
it would be a shame not to spend a few hours at Kaya
taking advantage of the complete relaxation that this spa offers.
My experience at Kaya
was a Lavender Fields Facial. Arriving 15 minutes ahead of my scheduled
time (per the spa's suggestion), I was whisked to the restroom where I
was given the key to a locker and asked to slip into a luxurious terry-lined
robe and spa sandals. Then, I waited in a Quiet Room where a moderately
lit room with comfortable couches was complete with a running water fountain.
I was quickly transported to a calmer, more peaceful place. As an array
of various current magazines lay waiting to be perused, I was asked if
I wanted water or hot tea while I waited. The next 10 minutes passed too
quickly. When my esthetician arrived to greet me, I was sipping a cup
of Blueberry Bliss tea and already a world away from the great outdoors.
My facial was 90 minutes long and infused with the sweet aroma of lavender
and a pampering shoulder, hand, arm, and foot massage. The Lavender Fields
Facial is designed to soothe and hydrate the skin, while improving elasticity
and reducing the appearance of fine lines. Not only did this facial fulfill
its promise, but also I learned some new information that will change
my at-home skin regimen. As I have some broken capillaries around my nose
and cheeks, the esthetician recommended that we forego the steam. Evidently,
steam can aggravate and inflame broken capillaries. I was already impressed,
as I had never been told this information before - even by other estheticians
who recognized my skin problem enough to make mention of it.
Once my facial was over, I elected to return to the Quiet Room and relax
for another 30 minutes to catch up on some magazine reading and enjoy
the calming waterfall. I ended my visit with a rain shower and then, finally,
it was time to go home. I can't remember the last time a simple facial
lasted all afternoon! I can't remember the last time I felt this completely
relaxed after a facial, either!
