Fuga, An Italian Escape

Italian Escapism on Chicago's North Side

Fuga , which means 'escape' in Italian, is the latest spa and salon to open in the thriving Southport corridor. And walking into this new neighborhood addition, I felt exactly that feeling - complete escape. The music playing throughout the salon is exclusively Italian. Beautiful melodies reminiscent of Italian opera float through the salon space, regardless of where you are being pampered. Fuga spares no expense to create an authentic Italian spa experience, right down the salon's business cards where information is written in Italian.

The lighting is bright and modern, the furnishings are simple and classic, and the combination of the two is striking. I felt I was inside the walls of a timeless Italian village, and much like a native Italian, I was treated like family as soon as I walked in the door. From the finger sandwiches to the chocolate truffles, my entire experience at Fuga felt homey.

First item on the agenda, a facial. The esthetician underwent a complete examination of my current skin regimen and history before customizing my facial. She used the Yonka line of products from Paris to exfoliate and rejuvenate my skin, and she made sure I left with samples of the product line to try at home.

Next up, Fuga's expert massage therapist comforted my tired body. She specializes in physical therapy so she has a unique approach to massage therapy that includes 'range of motion' techniques that make for an absolutely wonderful yoga-like massage. Never before has a massage both stretched and relaxed me simultaneously.

The cherry on top of my wonderful day - a haircut from one of Fuga's ultra-talented stylists. First she spent a significant amount of time consulting with me about my hair type. She also asked me what I was looking to achieve with this cut. I then decided to bite the bullet and get bangs! She cut them so that I can either sweep them to the side or accentuate them, depending on my mood. I definitely have a modern look now - and it's not the bangs of the 80s!

Leaving Fuga was not easy...I felt like I was on an extended vacation, a complete Italian escape...
