I battle stress just like the next person; not just carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders, but my neck and back as well. Not stretching properly after workouts also put my body in dire straights, so I was looking forward to a bit of therapy, by way of a relaxing massage. A quick stretch of the legs from the CTA's Brown Line, I arrived at Avanti Skin Care Center at 409 North Avenue in Old Town-one of the Skin Care center's two Chicagoland locations. With the copious amount of dining and shopping options in this popular strip of the city, Avanti was an oasis from all the hustle and bustle of the area.

The warm greeting I received upon entering was equal to the color scheme and design. My massage therapist introduced herself with a confident handshake, while bringing me a glass of cool water on what was a very humid evening. As I filled out the client form, it was hard to believe that a spa with such a serene, Feng Shui like appeal would offer advanced medical esthetic treatments as well. While the purpose of my visit was to receive a therapeutic massage, many clients have grown to know Avanti for their credible and results oriented Medical Spa Services, administered under the instruction of Dr. Trupti Gokani. The Dr. is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine and is twice certified from the Aesthetic Procedures Institute on Laser and Aesthetic Procedures. Rest assured that you would be receiving credible injectables, as Dr. Gokani is also a Botox Cosmetic Therapeutic Consultant and Speaker for Allergan.

My therapist led me down a small hallway that was enhanced by the engaging smell of essential oils. The cavern-like room where my service took place was softly lit and partnered with melodic spa music. Before undressing and slipping under the soft cotton sheets, my therapist and I discussed the details of my evaluation form, making sure to address any areas of concern. While some massage therapists choose to start their client face down, I was instructed to lie face up, in an effort to begin my experience with some deep breathing exercises. I chose lemongrass essential oil of which my therapist placed on her hands that hovered over my face, under the direction of deep breathing. My massage started with my scalp and ended with my back; a protocol that I was not used to, yet found pleasantly surprising. I was impressed with the fact that my therapist was in tune to my concerns on the form I filled out and immediately addressed areas of extraneous stress and tension, thus allowing me to really enjoy the remainder of the massage. I knew I needed a lot of work that rendered a bit more pressure, but I liked the fact that I was asked if the pressure was too much, or not enough. I was there to relax and my therapist was conscious of that, yet at the same time she effectively answered my questions with both knowledge and passion for her trade.

The massage was so well choreographed, I could not believe how quickly my hour was up. Slowly, I was brought out of my euphoric state to the state of reality. After coming changing back into street clothes in a groggy, haze, my experience was capped when my therapist brought in some photo copies of detailed stretching exercises that addressed my areas of concern. Never before had I been given such immediate one-on-one personal attention of which truly elevated my spa experience to another level. I found that Avanti's therapists share a common philosophy in educating the client beyond the treatment room, which made my experience both enlightening and unique.

My visit to Avanti was for a traditional spa service, yet the education and personal treatment I received would make me confident in choosing Avanti for one of their more serious medical spa service.
