Dr. Lillian Obucina 2007 Review
Leading edge dentistry meets boutique spa at the office of Dr.
Lillian Obucina. On the 15th floor of a Loop office building, her
luxurious suite showcases magnificent views of Michigan Avenue and Millennium
Park alongside an upscale modern décor with hardwood floors and custom
finishes.
Dr.
Obucina greeted me at the door, and I immediately noticed her perfectly
straight teeth and pearly white smile - a model of perfection. The boutique
space is private, clean and serene and features two treatment rooms and
a reception area. The boutique style of the environment gave me the impression
that Dr.
Obucina's patients receive lots of personalized care and one-on-one
attention. And I was right. This doctor was pleasant, affable and has
a passion for helping her clients improve the look and health of their
teeth and mouth. She also performs all of the procedures, including cleanings,
herself.
We talked for a few minutes, and I had a chance to get to know Dr.
Obucina and learn about her background. A practicing dentist in Chicago
for more than 20 years, Dr.
Obucina received her graduate and post-graduate degrees from Northwestern
University Dental School. She also has a certificate in Prosthodontics,
an area of dentistry that focuses on bridgework, removable dentures and
dental implants.
Dr.
Obucina performs a variety of dental treatments, from regular cleanings,
exams and fillings to crowns and bridgework, dentures and full mouth rehabilitation.
She also focuses on the aesthetics of the teeth; enhancing the beauty
and self-confidence of her patients through teeth whitening treatments
and Lumineers® Porcelain Veneers.
To begin, Dr.
Obucina had me fill out a few medical and dental history forms and
then examined my teeth. I explained that I was hoping to try a Teeth Whitening
procedure to brighten and whiten my smile. She confirmed I was a good
candidate for the treatment and snapped a photo of my teeth, as the "before"
shot we would use for comparison later.
First, Dr.
Obucina lightly cleaned my teeth with a dental tool and prepped my
mouth for the hour-long process. She inserted a plastic mouthpiece that
would help keep my mouth open for the duration of the whitening. Next
she placed gauze pieces inside my mouth to keep it dry, and then applied
a wax to guard my gums from the potent whitening gel. Once I was ready,
she applied the gel to the top and bottom front teeth and then held a
small blue light up to them. She explained that some people feel sensitivity
when the gel is applied, and she assured me she would remain in the room
in case I began to feel uncomfortable. Fifteen minutes later, she removed
the light, reapplied the gel and then repositioned the light again. We
went through process four times.
At the end of the hour, she removed the gauze and guards and handed me
a mirror to check out the results. I was totally delighted! My new pearly
whites were practically sparkling. She took another picture and we studied
the comparison. My teeth were several shades lighter and looked brighter
than I can ever remember them. She advised me that I may feel sensitivity
or pain the following day, which is normal, but she assured me it would
diminish over the next 48 hours.
I left Dr.
Obucina's office totally impressed with the doctor's professional,
personal manner, the private, posh environment and the dramatic improvement
in my smile - mine was truly a one-of-a-kind trip to the dentist.
