When I walked in, right away I noticed the relaxing, quiet and almost spiritual vibe of Ruby Room. Immediately I started to unwind. The simple décor includes hardwood floors, vintage furniture and earthy accents. One of the polite staffers gave me a warm welcome and explained Ruby Room's treatment offerings and the products used on customers. Guests here are pampered with only all-natural and organic products. Bumble and bumble, Bare Escentuals and Arcona Skin Care are the lines emphasized. A massage therapist showed me the way into the spa where soft music was playing and then to a private treatment room for my first service called an "Enerssage." She explained that this would be a massage where stressed and tight muscles are relieved with lightly scented, pure organic essential oils that help detoxify, purify, stimulate and relax. The massage also focuses on the body's chakras or energy centers, which she explained promotes healing. She utilized a combination of clinical, Swedish and deep tissue techniques all along my back, neck and shoulders. She found my sore spots immediately and applied isolated pressure to break up these build ups of fibrotic tissue (what I call "knots"). At the end of the treatment my muscles felt great and really stretched out. My next service was a Men's Eyebrow Groom with waxing, which is a hair removal process that uses warm, all-natural wax to pull away unwanted hair, sort of like pulling off a band-aid. It removes the hair at the root so the next hair takes a while to grow back, as opposed to shaving where hair grows back within a couple of days. The consultant also explained that the wax product adheres to the hair rather than the skin, leaving my hair-free with no irritation. She waxed my eyebrows, and I was so surprised at how quick and painless it was. Then she made sure they were properly groomed and shaped by trimming any unruly hairs and combing my brows. In addition to massage and waxing services, Ruby Room offers several other types of body and facial treatments, ear candling, acupuncture, make up lessons, reflexology, yoga and cosmetic dentistry. There is also a Rejuvenation Spa, a Hair Salon for cuts and styling, an Apothecary, a Healing Sanctuary on the second floor and a Yoga Lounge next door. But the real ingenious offering at Ruby Room is the Overnight Getaway Packages. Located upstairs from the salon and spa, are several private, luxury suites. Customers who book overnight stays here can select from a variety of treatments that go along with the "getaway" theme. Ruby Room is at the forefront of a new-age philosophy. All of the services here have an underlying tone of healing for both the psyche and the body. I left feeling revived and de-stressed. In fact, before my visit to Ruby Room, I had never given a thought to my "chakras." I'm glad to report that the staff at Ruby Room enlightened me and I left with a new view that marries pampering with total well being.
