Chicago spas: Spa/Salon of the Week
Advanced Dermatology

City Park Shopping Center, an upscale complex featuring shops and restaurants amidst precise landscaping in north suburban Lincolnshire looks like any regular shopping mall at first glance. However, upon further examination, things become much clearer. This is also home to Advanced Dermatology and sister store Skinfo, a one-two combo of skincare, cosmetic procedures and plush pampering.

The brainchild of Dr. Amy Forman Taub, Advanced Dermatology prides itself on "innovative skincare" for all patients. A Chicago native, Dr. Taub is a Northwestern Medical School graduate who completed her internal medicine internship and dermatology residency at Northwestern Memorial and now serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at her alma mater. Dr. Taub is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), the American Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine (ASLMS), the Chicago Dermatologic Society, and is a Charter Board of Director for the American Society of Photodynamic Therapy (ASPDT). And as if those accolades weren't enough, she is also a member of the Leaders Society to the Dermatology Foundation, on the Advisory Council of the Skin Cancer Foundation, and on the Research Committee for the ASDS and is responsible for single- handedly selecting and training a highly qualified staff of skincare professionals at Advanced Dermatology.

After easily entering the parking lot, I strolled into Advanced Dermatology's bright second floor suite and was greeted warmly by two receptionists who gave me a bit of paperwork to fill out. I sat in the comfortable, modern waiting room. Origami art displays, rich earth tones and soft track lighting create a relaxing, spa-like feel and leather furniture, slate tiled floors, posh plasma TVs and Oak accents work to give the office a sleek, sophisticated and professional vibe.

After a brief wait I was called back to visit with a cosmetic coordinator and she expertly walked me through my treatment plan after asking me a series of questions pertaining to my skin. A short visit from a licensed cosmetologist concluded with a final treatment plan consisting of a SonoPeel and SonoFacial, both aesthetic treatments that require no down time. The cosmetic coordinator and I discussed the risks and benefits of the treatment and, feeling comfortable with the knowledge they imparted, I signed an acknowledgement form to begin treatment and I was then whisked down the hall to a private waiting room.

A esthetician lead me to the treatment room where she left me to change into a comfy treatment robe. Following her instructions, I situated myself on the table in the center of the room and she adjusted it accordingly to maximize comfort and relaxation. I sat deeply into the plush bed-like table, and closed my eyes as she began to explain the procedure in detail. The SonoPeel was first and, after cleansing my face gently, she began the water-based microdermabrasion using ultrasound energy to propel water all over my face. It was a bit tingly, but overall quite pleasant and soothing. She explained that the SonoPeel would remove dead cells and debris in an effort to deeply hydrate and reveal more radiant skin.

After the hydrating treatment I was ready for the SonoFacial, a procedure that rejuvenates the skin with high potency nutrients. The esthetician spread a thick layer of personalized, nutrient-rich serums and gels all over my face and neck that were tailored to my skin's specific needs, and then began to massage it in with a warm wand and ultrasound energy. After several minutes of working the serums deep into my pores, she washed my face clean, and encouraged me to relax for several minutes before getting up. And after a few follow-up questions, she exited and left me to my final relaxation.

Immediately, my skin felt dewy to the touch, smoother and hydrated. After glancing in a mirror I noticed a marked difference in the tone and radiance of my skin, and was very pleased with the procedures and outcome. The SonoPeel and SonoFacial were both relaxing, and almost meditative with near immediate results. In the few days following the appointment at Advanced Dermatology I received countless compliments on how "fresh faced" I appeared due, no doubt, to my SonoPeel and SonoFacial at Advanced Dermatology.

Advanced Dermatology is a full-service skincare office offering treatment for a variety of skin disorders, cosmetic treatments and aesthetic treatments in a stylish second floor office in Lincolnshire. In addition, Dr. Taub's specialty skincare boutique, Skinfo, is located on the first floor near the office and offers over 500 high end physician dispensed skincare and pampering products.
