Chicago spas: Spa/Salon of the Week
Eucalyptus Spa

2007 Review

Hidden in plain sight, Eucalyptus Spa brings a touch of Zen to a high traffic area of River North. A few steps from the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Orleans, just west of the CTA's Brown and Purple Line stations, this Eastern oasis sees an upbeat mix of business professionals and students from the nearby Cooking and Hospitality Institute and Moody Bible Institute. Spa services for the nails and body are the specialty here, given with friendly enthusiasm and a sprinkling of Chinese healing philosophies and natural herbs.

2006 Review

Eucalyptus Spa for Nails and Body is the perfect antidote to combat today's environmental hazards. As I entered, I was greeted by cheery owner, Fay Dang, and quickly escorted to a private room for a Spa Facial. The sage green walls created a relaxing atmosphere - perfect for pampering.

The facial was wonderful - even one week later my skin was still glowing skin and my pores barely visible. I lied down on a heated massage table which enhanced the experience, as many times body temperature drops during treatments, but no shivering here. The facial began with a skin analysis, and we determined that mine was oily. My skin was thoroughly cleansed, exfoliated, steamed and masked. The mask was heat-activated and slowly warmed as the minutes passed. While my least favorite part of a facial is extractions, it's important to note that at Eucalyptus a suction tool is used to perform extractions. This tool is much more comfortable than the typical extraction method and ideal for sensitive skin. Massage is also an important part of facials at Eucalyptus. The neck, arms, shoulders and hands were gently massaged making it almost impossible to stand up after the treatment because I was so relaxed! But alas, I had to move on to a manicure and pedicure.
