  • Confessions of a Makeup Shopaholic
    PrettyCity

In the soon-to-be-released motion picture, "Confessions of a Shopaholic," Isla Fisher depicts the fashionable, yet fiscally irresponsible, editor, Rebecca Bloomwood. And what makes Ms. Bloomwood tick (or palpitate might be more like it)? Two things: the heavy hitters in fashion including Chanel, YSL, Dior, Stella McCartney and Betsey Johnson; and the ever-elusive Sample Sale. Basically, Rebecca Bloomwood is the fictional sister we never had. To her couture-chasing, trend-owning antics we can relate.

Rebecca may pine for couture gowns, fashionable satchels and sky-high heels from fashion's elite, but our eyes are fixated elsewhere. From matte lipstick to creamy foundation all the way to shiny nail polish, our buyer's lust is directed towards the haute-couture makeup counter.

The Inside Scoop: Veria Wellness Center
    PrettyCity

On Lincoln Parkīs Halsted Street, flanked by multiple city-dwelling standards, including Starbucks just a block to the right, and late-night locales steps to the left, Veria Wellness provides a refuge for urbanites. Veriaīs name comes from the Latin word "veritas," meaning truth, and fittingly, as I was seeking my own truth (in beauty, natch!), I stepped through the doors of Veria to experience all that makes this sanctuary unique.

I was greeted at the reception desk for my two appointments: an Abhyanga four-handed massage and an Ayurvedic facial. As I made my way up to the second level, I couldnīt help but notice the natural light pouring in from the expansive skylights covering the ceiling. I was escorted to the lounge to complete what I thought was traditional paperwork required before treatments if itīs your first visit to a new spa. I was surprised when I took a closer look at the top page, reading "Do You Know Your Dosha?"
