  • Lessons learned from celeb look books

As Britney Spears' cameo at this year's VMAs proves, everybody loves a comeback. And being a celebrity with a host of stylists, trainers and makeup artists perfecting one's every look, isn't absolute insurance against style missteps. (Cue Spears.)

So if money, power and box-office appeal can't protect celebrities from making beauty mistakes, what can the rest of us do? Why learn from their mistakes, of course! We've gathered the top looks that left us breathless and those that left us declaring, "Oh no she didn't!"

    The A-lister: Jennifer Lopez
The Lesson: Keep it simple, starlet!
The Looks: J Lo's curls gone wild look doesn't flatter her heart-shaped face and it screams over styled. Plus the flatness at the crown of the head paired with the fullness of the curls on the side, creates an off- balance look that is far from flattering. Reminding us that simple can be devastatingly sexy, Lopez hits the hair on the head with the soft, sleek look she sported in 2007.

    Shades of the Season

Ok, you've had your fun with your bright pinks, punchy purples and other daring hues during the summer months, but fall is on it's way, and so are some more "polished" nail lacquers. To ease the transition from hot pink to cool red, we've rounded up our favorite nail colors for fall.

Fall's the time to welcome brown hues with "I'm Fondue of You" from the OPI Collection de France. This dark chocolate hue looks good enough to eat and refined enough to complement any outfit. As we've learned in past seasons, when it comes to dark polish, be sure to keep a bottle of your chosen hue handy, as a single chip can mean the difference between elegantly polished and unfortunately unkempt.

The Inside Scoop: AMA Releasing Abhyanga Massage and Intensive Facial at the Peninsula Spa
    New Suburban Spot

The Peninsula Chicago, which is widely regarded as one of most luxurious hotels in the city, offers a glamorous retreat along the Magnificent Mile for those staying as hotel guests as well as those simply popping in for an afternoon at the Peninsula Spa by ESPA.

I felt instantly transported from everyday life as I walked through the magnificent lobby of the hotel and ascended to the spa, located on the 20th floor. As I stepped off the gilded elevator, I found myself in the quietly luxurious and relaxing reception area of the Peninsula Spa.

The spa's décor features natural, sophisticated botanical elements including wood paneling, plants, and gorgeous painted tiles. The receptionist checked me in with a smile before showing me to the luxe locker room. On our way, the receptionist explained that the Peninsula Spa uses the ESPA skin care line, which emphasizes aromatherapy and is composed of natural ingredients.
