BEAUTY TIPS: Hot Mamas

Hot Mamas
by Carolyn Brundage

Who knew blankies and binkies could be so hot?

It seems that "toddler-in-tow" and "baby-on-board" are fast becoming catchphrases for Hollywood's hottest stars. While we don't recommend embracing this trend for fashion's sake, if you're already a mom or soon to be one, your role has become oh-so-glamorous. I've rounded up some tips for living up to the hype.

Her Precious L.A.M.B

Gwen Stefani showed up at last week's Grammys showing and glowing. This rock star Mom made good use of one of my favorite (and simplest) beauty secrets- red lips and glowing skin.

Moms have less time to primp than mere mortals so we often have to make quick work of getting gorgeous.

To do this, never scrimp on skincare. You don't have time to hide blemishes with elaborate makeup routines. Instead opt for this glow-and-go routine: Pick an all-in-one bronzer and powder one shade darker than your natural skin color. One to try is Paula Dorf's Pressed Powder in shades like bronze and honey; they do double duty as a powder and a bronzer ($26 at PaulaDorf.com). Next apply two to three coats of jet black mascara; I like Lorac's Lotsa Lash ($19, Loraccosmetics.com for locations). Lastly, go bold with a red lipstick and liner on lips. F.Y.L.O. cosmetics makes a luscious lip color called "Con Amore", a vivid, warm red ($12 at fylocosmetics.com). Pair it with their "Carmen" lip liner, a true classic red that works well with most skin tones, $11.

Stacey's Mom

Rachel Hunter, mother of two, introduced herself to Gen Y when she starred in Fountains of Wayne's steamy "Stacey's Mom" video. This year she's again out to show just how hip Moms can be, hosting "Style Me" on WE TV.

What's in Rachel's Makeup Bag? Rachel reportedly relies on Dramatic Radiance TRF Cream, a pricey anti-aging moisturizer that's rumored to be well worth the dough, $98 at Ddfskincare.com. This model mom also uses Era Primer ($30), the first aerosol makeup primer and Era Face, a spray on foundation. Perfect for moms, this spray on foundation aims to give flawless face in just seconds, $55 at Classifiedcosmetics.com.

Spokes-model Moms

With the addition of Gwyneth Paltrow as one of their faces of beauty, Estee Lauder now boasts a serious mommy line-up as the signature faces of the Lauder cosmetic line including Liya Kebede, Elizabeth Hurley and Carolyn Murphy. This star line up of model moms credits motherhood with making life beautiful; Carolyn Murphy explains, "My style has changed a lot. It used to be dapper and kind of lazy, but the fact that I'm a mom makes me feel more sexy."

Dirty diapers not withstanding, today's Moms manage to handle their busy schedules flawlessly. To save face, try Lauder's "Sparkling Clean" collection of skincare including the Purifying Mud Foam Cleanser ($19) and an essential for those of us with oily-skin, the Mattifying Oil Control Lotion, $19.50 for 6.7 oz.
